potion of punctual companionship (and more)

Postby NotJim » Tue Nov 27, 2012 11:10 am

hello all

excluding this vague note there has been zero spading done on the potion of punctual companionship's effect

so i thought i'd do it in one swoop!

(also i noticed i wasn't getting as much MPA as I thought while running my turns today, so was curious)

done on a level 49 unascended sauceror with the following equipment:

Hat: crown-shaped beanie
Weapon: chopsticks
Off-hand: slime-covered compass
Shirt: (none)
Pants: star pants

Acc. 1: C.A.R.N.I.V.O.R.E. button
Acc. 2: C.A.R.N.I.V.O.R.E. button
Acc. 3: monster bait

Pet: Star Starfish (20 lbs)
Item: (none)

Ran 500+ turns of Hippy Stench, Simply Irresistible, Cantata for a total of 15% +combat in the Mine Shaft (had -5% song going and cbf removing it)
Aria so that the ghost miners are guaranteed survival
And of course I ran the buff in question, Stickler for Promptness

For each combat I set this script to autoattack until it hit the round limit

item seal tooth
repeat

In 500 combats I had 15000 combat rounds
starfish acted 8095 times

8095 / 15000 = 0.539666...
Starfish base act rate is 0.3333333....
0.539666... - 0.333333... = 0.20633333....

or an increase of act rate by 20%, not the originally assumed 25%

gg?

i'll probably retest this tomorrow with jingle bells on to confirm

retested, same effects, outfit, overall setup. 350 turns. except of course, jingle bells was on in addition to companionship.

350*30 = 10500 combat rounds. 8047 starfish actions in total.

8047/10500 = 0.76638

expected action rate is =0.333...+0.2+0.1 = 0.633333

what. i shouldn't be off by that much.

ok, let's separate how many actions were preceded by the 'bells jingle merrily' message.

1195 in total of those. 11.38%.

let's subtract that from our original value.

8047 - 1195 = 6909

6909 / 10500 = 0.658. or 65.8%.

Probably just a coincidence, but it may be that in addition to everything being additively calculated, jingle bells's action is also calculated separately and added to the total.

To look at this further, I'm going to check helicopter and punctuality only tomorrow. day 4 will be all three at once so i can try to figure out what the hell's going on.

also, my multi's running out of meat to spade this with. mall manipulators of potions of punctuality didn't help either. meatpls? :(

before i start with today's results, relevant thread: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=178&start=0

anyway, exact same setup as yesterday, except this time I have a loathing legion helicopter equipped, and no jingle bells.

so it's punc + helicopter today.

let's see what we get!

9900 rounds with 7967 actions.

7967/9900 = 0.8047...

expected action rate is 0.333... + 0.2 + 0.25 = 0.78

ok, so that's as expected. i don't understand why i'm consistently getting an upward trending bias, probably just weird RNG though.

helicopter actions are (marked by "cranks up the throttle on his little helicopter. Vroom!") 2580 in total

2580 / 9900 = 0.2606... again, as expected.

now time to combine the three

alternatively, maybe the starfish isn't 33% but 35% act rate!!

doesn't change the overall picture, either way. mostly.

I wouldn't be surprised. Whilst it's tempting to think 1/3, most numbers in KoL are multiples of 5.

yeh, this is yet another thing to look at. will need probably a thousand turns of 30-round combats to pin down properly. (this is really easy to spade! hint hint)

ok results with all three of punctuality, jingle bells and helicopter. yay multis.

of a total of 420*30=12600 combat rounds, a total of 11421 actions are observed.

11421/12600 = 0.9064

expected action rate is 0.333+0.25+0.2+0.1 = 0.8833.

if starfish action rate was actually 35% and not 33%, that would have been perfectly correct. so i'm going to say right now that the starfish formula should be really 35%, not 33.33%, and it merits double-checking ASAP

number of helicopter messages = 3413. 3413/12600 = 0.2708
number of jingle bells messages = 1415. 1415/12600 = 0.1123

you know, maybe jingle bells is actually +11% action rate, and not +10%? i mean if you look at this they all round to 11% action rate... so i'm going to call that too

so, a few things from all of this.

1) starfish formula is probably (slightly) wrong - 35% instead of 33.33...%. needs checking.
2) jingle bells is probably (even more slightly) wrong - 11% instead of 10%. needs checking.
3) potion of punctuality is definitely +20% familiar action rate. confirmed.
4)

i still do not understand what is going on here. why re-add the jingle bells amount if only potion of punctuality is going, but not helicopter? that makes zero sense. i think i will retest this next, followed by redoing all of this testing but on a different familiar, the cocoabo.

starfish again, with potion of punc + jingle bells

total actions = 6330 / 8400 = 0.75357
expected action rate = 0.33...+0.2+0.11+0.11 = 0.7533

total jingle bells messages = 904
expected action rate = 904 / 8400 = 0.1076

so yeah, jingle bells appears to be applied twice when stickler of promptness is on. but when you add the helicopter, that interaction vanishes. the hell.

next up is cocoabo analysis and i've completed the turns, but i'm screwing it up and i'm tired. maybe later.

cocoabo test, with punc + jingle bells

total combat rounds = 350*30 = 10500

total action count = 6846
total action % = 6846/10500 = 0.652...
expected action % = 0.33333....+0.2+0.11 = 0.643333...

total attack count = 2897
total attack % out of all actions = 2897/6846 = 0.42316...
expected attack % = 0.33*0.25+0.66+0.5 = 0.4166...

total healing count = 1641
total healing % out of all actions = 1641/6846 = 0.2397...
expected attack % = 0.25

total confuse count = 1726
total confuse % out of all actions = 1726/6846 = 0.25211...
expected attack % = 0.25

total meat count = 582
total meat % out of all actions = 582/6846 = 0.085...
expected attack % = 0.33*0.25 = 0.0825

limit break count = 1351
limit break % out of all actions = 1351 / 6846 = 0.1973
expected break % = 0.25

total jingle bell count = 1253
total jingle bell count = 1253 / 10500 = 0.11933...
expected jingle bell count = 0.11

we can quickly observe two things:

1) everything appears to function as normal for the cocoabo, no apparent duplicated jingle bells function, etc. how strange.
2) limit break, as posted on the wiki at the moment, is assumed at 25%. but it appears to be actually 20%...

therefore, to test tomorrow:

1) starfish with jingle bells only, to isolate that effect
2) mosquito with punctuality only to triple-check that >.>

Probably just a coincidence, but it may be that in addition to everything being additively calculated, jingle bells's action is also calculated separately and added to the total.

hahahaha just kidding i'm the WORST SPADER AU

i parsed those results incorrectly, here are the actual values:

total actions = 6852 / 10500 = 0.65257....
expected actions = 0.33+0.2+0.11 = 0.6433....

which is as expected.

i'll still do the two tests i outlined tomorrow then I'll close off that portion of the testing, but a third question arises: is the LIMIT BREAK % as posted on the wiki ("LIMIT BREAKs occur when the Cocoabo is 17 pounds or greater about 25% of the time.") correct - more importantly, what's the mimic's Happy Holidays! rate in that case?

Parsed the logs that I got the spleen familiar values out of, since I used the mimic for the remainder of the turns after I got all of the spleen fam items for the day. Assuming I did everything correctly...

Mimic actions at 46+ pounds: 17174
Happy Holidays! actions: 3302 (19.23%)

Mimic actions at 65+ pounds: 9956
Happy Holidays! actions: 2029 (20.38%)

Mimic actions at 80+ pounds: 7988
Happy Holidays! actions: 1606 (20.11%)

Mimic actions at 100+ pounds: 6514
Happy Holidays! actions: 1307 (20.06%)

Happy Holidays! never showed up before 46 pounds. Probably safe to assume that the 46 pound threshold is correct.

starfish with jingle bells only:

8760 total combat rounds with 3915 starfish actions.
3915/8760 = 0.4469
expected action rate = 0.33+0.11=0.44

1000 actions prefixed by jingle bells.
1000/8760 = 0.114155...
expected action rate = 0.11

Nothing new here.

Also wandering monsters are annoying to clean out of logs so I'll mark this now as COMPLETE and note three (plus one) conclusions out of this:

#1 - +action rate of Stickler of Promptness is an additional +20%.
#2 - +action rate of Jingle Bells is not 10%, but 11%.
#3 - cocoabo and mimic crit rates are not 25% but 20%.
#4 - +action rates of all helicopter/punctuality/jingle bells are confirmed to stack additively
